The cooling fan is a vital element of your laptop’s heat removal system. It’s responsible for removing the hot air generated by the processor and other parts.
In modern laptop designs, air is usually removed from heat sources using a ‘heat pipe’ system, which delivers the exhaust to the fan to be blown out through the cooling vents. Because everything in your laptop is packed together so tightly, a broken or faulty fan is a critical issue.
You need laptop fan replacement if you cannot feel any air coming from the air vents on the side of your machine. The fan blows hot air out of these vents: if there is no airflow at all, something’s wrong. If there is limited airflow, but the fan is making a loud noise, it’s working too hard because something is obstructing the vent from the inside.
Be aware that when you first turn your laptop on, the airflow from the vents will be minimal. As the machine reaches its normal operating temperature, though, air should start to come out.
If your laptop is hot, you may need laptop fan repair. Check the temperature of the CPU (you can do this using a monitoring program, if your machine doesn’t have one already): a constant reading of 70 degrees Centigrade or more, even when the laptop is idle, indicates a problem.
